We decided to ad this catagory
becuse somtimes our Government does things That are so dum you just have
to find the humor in the situation.
Like our pets we feed them,
clothe them, house them, let them play and what do we get in return they
%$^&& on the rug!!!
The article below would be funny
if it where not so dangerous. Hopefully they get this problem corrected
before they get a bunch of our boys and this man killed becuse of thier
incompitance. It was found on http://www.congress.org/congressorg/home/
As a disabled vet myself I can
not imagine them sending me back. Not that I would mind being back in,
but a man needs to be on top of his game to be in combat or people will
get hurt. Remember a chain is only as strong as its weekest link.
Recalling disabled soldiers to
deploy to Iraq? My own public apology Top of Form 1 We are already keeping
thousands of young americans long past thier contracted time and recalling
thousands more, all of it via the "stop-loss policy that was first used
during the gulf war. I believe that it's wromg to hold anyone who hasn't
comitted a crime against his or her will but to recall people that can't
defend not only themselves but your sons or daughters either and worse
yet might be putting other young peoples safety in jepordy is crossing
the line and we must stop this practice. With that in mind I am submitting
this letter of apology. To whom it may concern,
I am a 49 year old father of two who has written maybe six letters in my
entire life and am writing this one because I feel that it is important
that I publicly apologize. No, I’m not a murderer or kidnapper, I’m not
a burglar or shoplifter or even a speeder when I get behind the wheel of
a car, but I am as guilty as if I were any of these. My crime is that,
like a large percentage of the people reading this letter, I haven’t been
paying attention. You say that not paying attention isn’t a crime. Well
it should be when it comes to issues of this importance. You see, until
very recently I had no real understanding about our government’s “stop
loss” policy. Sure I had heard about it and read little snippets in the
paper about it, but how important could it be. After all, I never saw it
in the sports or entertainment sections with the really important stuff.
I don’t have any kids in the military, and after all didn’t these people
sign contracts knowing full well that they could be giving as much as eight
years servitude to our country, and haven’t I always been one of the first
to say thank you when meeting a service person? It didn’t really affect
me anyway, did it? I’m ashamed and embarrassed to say that what prompted
my change in attitude was finding out that I am affected. You see, I learned
that someone very dear to my heart is being recalled to active duty. The
sad thing is that if it had been almost anyone other than this particular
person I would probably be enjoying my usual Sunday afternoon routine of
napping in my recliner, and watching golf through my eyelids without a
care in the world. Instead I find myself a very angry man, pounding away
at my computer with my only two fingers that can find the keys that my
brain tells them to find. Please let me help you to understand why this
particular case was enough to wake me up. My very good friend Jake
Cederbloom, of Kennewick Washington, is a 27 year old, married, father
of two children under the age of four, who recently received orders to
report to prepare to deploy to Iraq. Now understand, Jake signed up seven
and a half years ago knowing full well that if war broke out he would probably
be asked to deploy and he fully understood and accepted it. What you need
to know is that he has had four years of active service, more than two
of it overseas in Germany and Kosovo before he was released. He had been
having serious problems with his knees and back and at the time of his
release it was determined that he had a 40% disability. When Jake received
his orders, he had been inactive for three and a half years, and considering
his disability, we all, (his family and I), thought that it must be some
kind of a mistake, so he got all of his paperwork in order and took it
to the local recruiting office to see what, if anything he could do. They
agreed that, based on his documentation, his orders “most likely” were
a mistake and counseled him to file a disability exemption, which he did.
We all assumed that his exemption would come through in a few weeks and
continued on with our lives. A week ago Jake received word that his request
has been denied. Our military has determined that “a 40% disability should
not deter him from serving”. Ok, I have known this person for a while
now so I can say with all honesty and seriousness that if you send this
young man into a war zone you may as well paint a target on not only his
back but on the back of any other young patriot near him that might feel
compelled to attempt to help him to safety because I promise you that he
is not physically able to run for cover. It’s been documented that the
last six months of his active service at Fort Sill, Ok. He was allowed
to walk at his own pace and distance, he could not carry or fire any weapons,
and he could not wear Kevlar, rucksack, or TA50. To compound his situation,
after his release he and his family were rear ended in an auto accident
in June of 2003, causing further injury to his back. I love Jake, but knowing
his limitations I wouldn’t want him serving next to a member of my family.
Would you? When I said that I hadn’t been paying attention it really
was an understatement, because what I found out this week was that there
have been dozens of articles written about the ‘stop loss’ policy. In fact
all of the information that I could ever want to know about what Jake and
his family are going through was one Google search for “stop loss” or “back
door draft” away. I found out that Jake’s case was not the only one or
even the most ridiculous of its kind. After one Google search I learned
that we can tell our young people that if you read your contract, start
to finish, and cross your Ts and dot your Is then everybody signing has
to “by law” honor that contract, period, just to find out that we are lying
to our children. I found out that our military can extend anyone’s contract
by an additional 2 years past the contracted 8 years without repercussion
but if you decide to honor the original contract that you signed and not
show up for the extension, that even though you are a patriot who volunteered
to serve your country for eight years, and have eaten sand in a country
that you know very little about you will be labeled a criminal and risk
going to jail. Now, I’m not some kind of radical or subversive. I’m
just a concerned citizen who hates being lied to, who canceled out his
wife’s vote twice by voting for both Bushes, and who hates most of all
admitting that my wife may have been right and that I may have been wrong.
When I said that this was a letter of apology I meant it and when I said
that I was angry I meant that too. I’m angry with those elected officials
who are supporting the “stop loss” but I’m more angry with myself for not
holding my elected officials accountable at the polls and for voting based
on what they tell me rather than researching the issues and voting as an
informed citizen. So to you Jacob Cederbloom and to the other thousands
of families being affected by the “stop loss”(back door draft), I apologize
with all of my heart and please know that I am one citizen who will tell
everyone that I meet what I have found out after just one Google search
in just one week of being awake. Respectfully, Donald R. Fleming, Grandview,
Washington P.S. Jake's orders are to report on Aug. 21.
